Walker Evans was a "Punk Rock" photographic visionary.

"In stylistic terms, Evan's photography is a series of negations. It is unenbellished, unvarnished and unpretentious. It eschews any atmospheric effects and most of the niceties of traditional composition. Often, in photographs of buildings as well as portraits, the subject is seen head on, in the hard light of midday sun, directly at eye level. As a result, Evan's subjects achieve a clarity, solidity and presence. While plainly temporal, they appear as if they existed outside of time."

Artwork commission sketch, 3/30/2016

This is a "close-to-final" sketch for a permanent art commission in the lobby of a building in Boston's South End. During the research stage I was told about the "lost New York streets" of Boston. There is a link to a Boston Globe article in the comments. #boston #artcommission #southend

Shoot a high school senior portrait? Sure, but my way.

It has been many years since I shot the one wedding, the few corporate portraits, and the handful of magazine portraits i've done over the course of my career.  I have never shot a high school senior portrait, nor had it ever been a goal of mine, or even something I thought was in my skill set.  My work is primarily fine art sold through galleries, and large scale corporate commissions. The other day I was approached by a mother and daughter who saw me work in a gallery and were interested in my style. Always up for a challenge, I said yes.

Olivia is a high school senior heading to fashion design school next fall. I found her to be thoughtful, creative, and game for anything. This was a short, but great collaboration and I enjoyed it immensely.

Yard Work Vol. 1

The moment one gives close attention to anything,
even a blade of grass, it becomes a mysterious, awesome,
indescribably magnificent world in itself.
